Urubamba to Machu Picchu

On our way to Machu Picchu, we stopped at the pottery workshop of an artist named Pablo Seminaria.  His workshop is like a small compound with an indoor courtyard and outdoor work areas and gardens.  He designs pottery that is ornamental and he's hired and trained local people to produce utilitarian pieces.  We had a chance to meet him and found out he has 50 pieces displayed at the Field Museum in Chicago.  And he started out as an architect.

Every Wednesday is the big market in Urubamba, so we had a chance to experience it first hand.  It is the time the local people buy and sell what they need for the week.  An incredibly hectic scene

.

We also walked around the side streets of the town.

From there we headed to the train station for the trip to Machu Picchu.  It took an hour and 45 minutes but was pretty comfortable.

Finally - Machu Picchu!!!!! It was incredibly beautiful, fascinating and awe inspiring!

And for the family and friends of Rob and Debbie who are viewing this blog -  here they are!
